Planning an international trip involves organizing several essential documents for boarding. If you're going to Europe, there are new rules in place from 2023 on who needs a visa and who doesn't.
Even if you do not intend to go through countries in the Schengen Area, you will need to arrange a special authorization to enter the Old Continent. That is, don't leave it for the last minute!

In this sense, the authorization for Brazilian tourists who intend to visit Europe was named ETIAS. Whether traveling for leisure or work, the document will be mandatory at immigration later this year.
So, if you are in doubt whether you need a visa to enter Europe and how to arrange the documents, let us help you. See below everything you need to have a smooth trip!
What is ETIAS?
Effective from November of that year, ETIAS is the acronym for European Travel Information and Authorization System. The electronic form will issue an authorization for travelers from certain countries who want to visit Europe.
In this sense, tourists from 14 other countries such as Venezuela, Uruguay, Mexico, Chile, Paraguay and other destinations in Latin America will need to issue an ETIAS. The new rule applies to the entire European Union.
Therefore, it is not just because you are Brazilian that you need to present the document as a visa to enter Europe. This new system aims to combat terrorism and the migratory crisis of EU member countries.
ETIAS validity
Currently, the document validates the entry and stay of tourists for up to 90 days in countries on the European continent where no visa was previously required. But what if you need to stay longer in Europe and don't have a visa?
Well, if it is necessary to stay in countries that require ETIAS, the traveler will need a specific work, residence or student visa. Therefore, it is important to program yourself!
How to apply for ETIAS
Although it is not actually a visa to enter Europe, you need to complete the ETIAS form online before travelling. It will be necessary to inform the valid passport, criminal record and e-mail.
In addition, you will need to pay an issue fee using an international credit card. So, just print the document in two copies that will be requested upon boarding, whether by plane, ship or other means of transport.

Deadline and amounts
If you are worried about the ETIAS issuance value, don't worry! Initially, the form will have a fee of only 7 euros for issuing. For children under 18, there is no need to pay.
Although expectations are of an agile and fast system, requests will have a deadline of up to 48 hours for issuance. That is, if you need to fly to Europe, do not wait to apply for this document or visa at the last moment.
Check which documents are required to travel to Europe!
Although the ETIAS is a new document that is expected to come into force this year, there are other essential documents for a trip to Europe. So it's important to keep an eye out to have everything at hand.
It is worth remembering that for now you do not need a visa to travel to Europe if you are a tourist. But keep an eye out when the ETIAS portal will be live! See below for other procedures for traveling.
valid passport
It may seem obvious, but many tourists have already been held back because of their passports. That's because this document needs to be valid for at least 3 months after the planned end date of your trip!
That is, it is very important that you calculate the date of return to Brazil and make sure that your passport will be valid for a little longer until then. Otherwise, you will need to order a new one.
Travel insurance
In addition to the passport with the respective visa for those who will stay more than 90 days in Europe, you also need insurance to enter the Old Continent. By the way, be very careful when hiring your Travel Insurance.
This is because some countries also require a minimum amount, especially due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In this sense, the service will need to cover all expenses if you contract this disease. Keep an eye!
Letter of invitation or reservations
Who doesn't want to save money on a trip and stay at a friend's house? Well, if this friend lives in Europe, he will need to send you a signed letter declaring that you are a guest in his house!
If you are traveling for work, the person who signs your invitation letter is the company itself. Meanwhile, for tourists staying in hotels, it will be necessary to present printed proof of reservation at immigration.
Airline tickets
If you are a tourist and do not have a student or work visa to enter Europe, then you need to present one more document, the airline tickets. Mainly tickets back to Brazil or departure from Europe.
By the way, if you are going on a multi-destination trip within the Old Continent, you will also need to present all of them at immigration. The idea is to bar the entry of those who wish to remain illegally in European countries.
Financial vouchers
That's right, European authorities request proof of financial resources of at least 60 euros per day for travelers. By the way, vouchers need to be printed, so ask your bank before the trip!
As you can see, you don't necessarily need a visa to travel to Europe, but there are many other documents and bureaucracies to plan! So, how about taking out good Travel Insurance before boarding?
