Although it is not exactly considered a visa but rather an entry permit, the ETIAS will come into effect in 2023. But after all, how does the new Visa for Europe work? Which countries have adopted the form?
Well, it's worth remembering that permission to enter some European Union countries has been under discussion since 2013. In other words, the idea is not new and has been postponed a few times since its approval.

Currently, a visa is not required to enter European Union countries, just a valid passport, Travel Insurance and round-trip tickets. However, the scenario tends to change with the approval of ETIAS.
So, do you want to know more about how the new Visa for Europe works and how to obtain it? Well, we have prepared detailed content for you to understand more about ETIAS before your next trip. See below!
What is ETIAS?
The acronym comes from English and stands for European Travel Information and Authorization System. In other words, it is not actually a visa, but rather an authorization form where various data from the traveler will be collected.
The idea of creating a visa or authorization to enter Europe works as a security measure against terrorists, in addition to preventing illegal immigration. But be careful, ETIAS does not replace a visa for some countries!
Therefore, if you are traveling to a European country where a specific visa is requested, the online form is no longer necessary. However, if your flight is not direct, you will need to arrange authorization.
The European Parliament approved the measure in 2018, but it is only now being put into practice. There are at least 60 countries that must complete the ETIAS before traveling, including Brazil.
Well, the new visa for Europe, or ETIAS, works as an authorization of up to 90 days for tourists who wish to visit Schengen Area countries. After the period, you can request renewal only after another 90 days.
Furthermore, it is worth remembering that not all countries in the Schengen Area are part of the European Union. In this sense, this treaty is even older and establishes free borders between participating countries.
Currently, there are 26 countries that participate in the Schengen Area, 22 of which are also part of the European Union. If the visitor needs to stay in a Schengen Area country for more than 90 days, a special visa will be required.
Meanwhile, during the first year of ETIAS implementation the form will not be mandatory on the first visit. But, after receiving instructions, the form will be mandatory for future trips, so stay tuned!
Now that you know how the visa or authorization to enter Europe works, how about starting to prepare for your next trip? In fact, the ETIAS application takes place electronically and is quite simple.
If you are Brazilian or one of the countries that will need to fill out the form, it is important to have your passport, email and credit card ready to pay the fee. In this sense, the charge is 7 euros.
Furthermore, it is essential to carry at least 2 printed copies of the form with you during your trip. So, do you want to know exactly how it works to request authorization? Access below and check it out!
