First, know that there are different types of visas for different situations of entry into the United States. Currently, the consulate foresees 5 situations in which a foreigner needs to enter the country.

For those who are going to visit on tour, the visa is the Tourist one. However, with this type of visa, it is not allowed to carry out any type of work. Generally speaking, the shelf life is up to 10 years.

Furthermore, for those who are going on a business visit, the visa is the B1 type. But attention! It is also not allowed to work with this type of visa! Just make a visit to close deals where there is no remuneration.

What to do before the visa interview?

Although it is the stage most feared by travelers, the visa interview does not have to be a seven-headed thing. If you comply with all the rules and present all the necessary documents, you will hardly have any problems.

So, make sure you know how to apply for a US visa and review your data and passport before the interview. Remember that the latter must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of departure.

In the meantime, during the interview, try to remain calm and answer questions consistent with what you filled out on the D-160 form. Also, be well dressed, almost like for a job interview.

You may be one step away from fulfilling your dream of visiting the United States! You just need to know how to get your American visa and have a good plan to complete the process successfully. Check out what to do next.

visa form

Well, the first step to get your visa is to access the official website of the US Consulate. Then find the “Visa” option in the menu and select the type of visa you want.

Then, you must access the link to complete the DS-160 form. Your answers need to be in English and the information up to date! Any inconsistency with your data will jeopardize your process.

Also, be careful not to exceed the response time and save the steps so you don't have to start all over again. Don't worry, if you need to, you can translate the questions for better understanding.

fee payment

Once you've finished filling out the form, stay tuned for your expiration date! The document is valid for only 6 months. However, you need to pay the fee before you can proceed to the next step.

For leisure visitor visas, the fee is US$160.00. That is, the value in reais will depend on the dollar exchange rate on the day of payment. Remember that there is no refund for this fee, even if your visa is denied, okay?

In addition, you can pay online by credit card or by bank transfer at any bank. Although the DS-160 form is valid for 6 months, the fee is valid for 1 year.

scheduling

Now that you already have the form in hand, wait up to 2 business days for confirmation of payment of the fee in order to schedule your interview. However, be aware that this is possibly the most complicated step in the process.

That's because since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, interview vacancies are very limited! Scheduling is via the Consulate website or by telephone and you will need to provide your form and passport number.

Therefore, have all the previous documents in hand to make the appointment in an organized way. It is worth remembering that the availability of dates varies according to the city chosen to do the interview.

Data collect

As you can see, obtaining a US visa is a complex process full of steps. But rest assured, we are almost at the end of the journey. Now, you will need to collect your biometric data.

To do this, the visa applicant must go to a USA Visa Applicant Service Center, or CASV. In this sense, there is a unit in the main regions of the country.

There, you must register your fingerprints and take a photo. Don't forget to bring your DS-160 confirmation page! Furthermore, applicants under 15 and over 66 do not need to attend.

Interview

With the biometric data registered, it's time to attend your visa interview on the scheduled date and time. Although this is the final step, it is also the most feared by travelers.

But there's nothing to worry about. Just answer the inspector's questions concisely and according to your form. Don't forget to bring your appointment confirmation and DS-160!

In addition, it is also necessary to present your valid passport for the visa to be registered. So, carefully check all the documents before leaving home so you don't have setbacks later.
