When it comes to this profession, the responsibilities and demands are great. Therefore, many end up having a reality check when looking for a career as a flight attendant. Therefore, if you are interested in this area, see below the main questions, requirements and tips for entering this career.
Flight attendant career
First of all, do you know how this profession came about? Well, the first person to pursue a career as a flight attendant was nurse Ellen Church in the 1930s. At that time, women couldn't fly planes, but Ellen was passionate about aviation! Therefore, she suggested that nurses be part of the flights in order to reassure passengers.
The idea soon became quite popular, and initially only women could be flight attendants, which is why the name of the profession was flight attendant. In fact, the presence of women on aircraft calmed passengers, in addition to providing safety and comfort. However, this idea soon changed with the need for new professionals in the field.
Thus, men were also accepted into the career, and the profession began to be called flight attendant. In fact, it is worth remembering that from the beginning there are strict prerequisites to become a commissioner.
Furthermore, this job market is currently very competitive, as many want to fulfill their dream of traveling the world for work. However, it is necessary to take into account that the routine of these professionals is arduous, even though the salary may be worth it depending on the company. Therefore, analyze the pros and cons carefully before deciding to become a flight attendant.
What are the requirements to become a commissioner?
It may seem simple, but there is a long list of requirements that a person must meet before looking for a job as a flight attendant. First of all, you must have completed high school and be 18 years old or over. Then, you will be able to participate in the preparatory course for the profession.
In this sense, the course lasts between three and six months, and can be entirely face-to-face or blended. Furthermore, the student will need to be physically and psychologically fit to practice the profession, taking specific exams to obtain the Aeronautical Medical Certificate. Between the course and the medical exams, you should invest around R$2,000.00.
The next stage of the flight attendant requirements will be to undertake jungle survival training that can last up to 48 hours. It is worth remembering that it is important to have excellent physical preparation, as the training simulates an emergency landing. Finally, you must also pass the ANAC assessment.
Generally speaking, training and assessment adds an average of R$800.00 to your investment. However, if you do not pass the ANAC test with at least 70%, you will have to pay a new fee to retake the test. Only after completing all these steps will you be able to submit your resume to companies!
In addition to all these steps, the selection process for hiring can be even more complicated, as face-to-face interviews and tests take place in São Paulo and Brasília. If approved, the candidate must also undergo specific airline training according to the aircraft they will work on.
Is it worth becoming a flight attendant in Brazil? What is the salary?
Although airlines offer different working conditions and benefits, one aspect ends up being respected by all of them: time spent working. In this sense, the older the employee is in the company, the more valued he or she will be. Generally, newcomers start their schedules with domestic flights only.
To get a promotion and start traveling on international routes, the flight attendant needs to have some time with the company. Generally speaking, this time varies depending on the company, but the average is two years. So, keep this in mind before making all the investment that a career as a flight attendant requires.
Furthermore, salaries are a positive point in this profession, and can vary more or less between R$5,000.00 and R$6,500.00 depending on the company. However, the schedules are challenging and those who have a family and children may not adapt as they end up spending more than a week away from home.
Furthermore, the dream of becoming a professional in this field ends up leading many people to take the flight attendant course and apply for jobs. In other words, the Brazilian job market ended up being somewhat saturated. Although it is not impossible to get a place, the process ends up being challenging.
